Rakuten Review 2026: The Quarterly Check Is Real. Here's Ours.

Used on our real online shopping for years

Our verdict

8.5/ 10

Rakuten is the one cashback service we'd tell anyone to start with. One habit, click through before you buy, and a real check (or PayPal deposit) shows up every quarter. The $30 new-member bonus is among the easiest on this site.

How it works

Rakuten gets a commission for sending you to a store, and splits it with you. Click through the site or app before buying (or let the browser extension remind you), buy like normal, cash back accrues, payouts go out quarterly. Rates swing from 1% to 15%+ depending on the store and the day, and double-cashback events are when the big rates show up.

Pros and cons

What we liked

  • Real money, check or PayPal, not points
  • $30 bonus for spending $30 as a new member
  • Extension makes it impossible to forget
  • In-store offers when you link a card

What we didn't

  • Quarterly payouts feel slow
  • Rates drop during big sales sometimes
  • Tracking occasionally misses a purchase (file a claim)
  • Extension pop-ups can get chatty

Start with the $30 bonus
