Travel Deals: How to Actually Pay Less for Trips in 2026

This page was recommending Expedia and Priceline coupons when booking online was still a novelty. The coupon era ended; overpaying for travel didn't. Here's the modern playbook, in the order that saves the most.

Flights: it's about when, not where

Hotels: the double-dip

Road trips: the easy layer

Gas is where road trip budgets die. Upside claims an offer before every fill-up and pays real cash back, and on a long drive across unfamiliar stations, it also tells you which side of the exit is cheaper. Eating on the road? The dining stack travels with you.

When to book

Domestic flights tend to bottom out somewhere between one and three months before departure, international trips have more room to move and reward earlier tracking. Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons are when airlines historically push the most fare drops, though a good price alert makes the day of the week irrelevant. Hotels are the opposite: last-minute rates can undercut advance booking in soft-demand markets, so if your dates are flexible it's worth checking both ends before committing.

Save on the whole trip, not just the booking

The stacking system works on vacation too.
